Our thought lives are crucial to finding joy this side of Heaven. Everything we do stems from a thought process — whether it’s bad or good, trivial or monumental.

So why is it we don’t pay much attention to our thoughts? Instead, we tend to let them run wild. The truth is you can control your thoughts! It’s true. And the more you practice thinking positively, the more your brain will do it automatically.

During the next 30 days we will walk through simple, specific exercises to:

  • Uncover thinking strongholds
  • Say goodbye to negativity
  • Begin a thought life full of gratitude and joy!

I didn’t even know that I could control my thoughts until I was in my 30s! Now, after research, I understand that I am not hostage to my thoughts and am even capable of controlling how my brain grows.

Yep, you heard me right! It’s called neuroplasticity and, simply put, it’s the brain’s ability to grow and adapt. If you continue to think postive thoughts your brain will improve postively. If you think negatively, your brain will grow negatively. 

Neurosurgeons have discovered you have 12 to 48 hours to let a thought go. If you do not, it will become a semi-permanent memory

It’s semi-permanent because nothing in the brain is permanent because it continues to grow and create brain cells. And that’s amazing because it means you can rewire your own brain! You can shape it with positive thoughts.

With neuroplasticity in mind, I’ve created a 30-day challenge, one exercise a day — first working to identify negativity and weed it out, and secondly to find joy through gratitude, prayer and focusing on the positive.

Each week has a theme:

  • Losing strongholds
  • Focusing on truth
  • Learning gratitude
  • Peace & quiet

First we’ll work on identifying negativity and strongholds and do exercises to release them. The second half of the month we will focus on truth and learning to choose joy.


Each day has a concise devotional that relates to the daily challenge. A meditation verse is included on each page, as well. The idea is to focus on that verse as you complete the challenge each day.

Thought journal

There are five pages in the back with space for each challenge so you can write what you’ve learned about yourself during the exercise. It’s an extra step, but I think it will teach you more about your thinking habits. It would also be helpful to see how far you’ve come if you do the challenge again in a year from now!

Gratitude journal

After the thought journal, I’ve included a page for your thanksgiving list. Add to it as you see fit throughout the study. Sometimes I find them most helpful on the hard days.

You can do this as a group or individually. Some studies you do once and leave it at that, but this study has so much to dig into on each day you can do it repeatedly, once a year. You can keep you journal pages and compare your growth year after year.
